SCT Operations (Strata Control Technology)

Established in Wollongong, Australia in 1989, Strata Control Technology (SCT) has been providing specialist geotechnical consultancy and instrumentation services for almost 35 years. Operating both in Australia and globally, the company has built a reputation for technically robust, practical solutions to difficult mining and tunnelling problems.

Fully owned by its staff, SCT is in a unique position to build and develop capability in house using a specialist team of over 20 geotechnical engineers, field personnel and instrumentation technicians.

A large body of our work in the late 1980’s and 1990’s related to the introduction of resin based rock bolting. SCT developed best practice field instrumentation, stress measurement and numerical simulation techniques. Following privatisation of the British Coal industry, we opened Rock Mechanics Technology (RMT) with IMCL based in Bretby, UK in the mid 1990’s (later sold to Golders).

SCT has conducted large scale technology transfer programs in Japan, Mexico, India, New Zealand and China. We opened our China office (Beijing) in 1996 following early rock bolting projects at Dong Pang Mine. We worked closely with the Yanzhou Mining Group and established a JV office in Jinin, China. SCT relocated the Beijing China office to Haiyang during 2017.

Our Australian operations are headquartered in Wollongong, NSW. We service the Queensland industry from our office in Brisbane.

SCT invest heavily in research and development and continue to refine and develop our capabilities to reflect the challenges faced in mining and civil operations.

We assist mining operations to manage strata control risks to optimise processes as well as mitigate impacts to the environment. Assistance with geotechnical inputs for planning, regulatory and statutory compliance are particular strengths of SCT.
