Inclinometers are well suited to measuring the tilt and movement of the ground adjacent to mining and civil excavations. SCT has utilised traditional bi-axial inclinometer probes to resolve strata movement associated with longwall mining.
Typical applications relate to the assessment of the timing, location and magnitude of shear zones within the overburden. Inclinometer arrays are commonly installed with surface extensometers, vibrating wire piezometer and stress monitoring arrays to assist with resolving the mechanics of overburden response.
SCT has also developed a MEMS based in place inclinometer that can be connected to a datalogger for real time monitoring of shear horizons and critical failure surfaces.
