SCT provides a range of specialist capability to characterise and remediate creek bed subsidence impacts caused by valley closure. SCT is involved in investigating the extent and nature of subsidence impacts to creek channels in the Southern Coalfield of NSW and finding solutions to protect these features and return flow to the surface.
Strategies range from mitigation involving slots and similar stress relieving structures to filling of fracture networks created by mining subsidence using both natural and artificial materials. High confidence monitoring strategies are employed to manage mining geometries to limit potential impacts to sensitive features such as waterfalls and key rock bars.
