SCT personnel Yvette Heritage presenting Winton Gale's paper during
the 37th International Conference on Ground Control in Mining

SCT Directors Yvette Heritage and Ken Mills participated in the 37th International Conference on Ground Control in Mining held in West Virginia during late July, 2018.

Yvette presented her paper, "Mechanics of Rib Deformation - Observations and Monitoring in Australian Coal Mines" as well as Winton Gale's paper "The Role of Gas Pressure in Coal Bursts".

Ken presented his paper, "Experience of Using the ANZI Strain Cell for Three-Dimensional, In-Situ Stress Determinations in Deep Exploration Boreholes", Ken was also co-author on a second paper "Management of Initial Convergence Events at Broadmeadow Mine".

Ken and several other Australians visited Arch Coal's Leer Mine on Friday following the conference where they were treated to an underground visit to inspect the longwall face and observe the differences in mining conditions between Australia and the USA. Pictured below are fellow Australian's from BMA's Broadmeadow Mine, who also attended the mine visit.
